About me

I am a Freelance Writer/Director/Producer based in Cardiff.

I trained as an actor at the RWCMD, then, after years of getting a few, and not getting a few parts, turned my attention to directing theatre. I have always wanted to create, so when the opportunity came along (way back in 2008) to make some exciting, low-fi, yurt based, new writing performances with Dirty Protest Theatre, I jumped at the opportunity to get involved. I quickly became part of the core team and produced and directed many plays and worked with many Welsh/Wales based writers. This led me to becoming an Associate Director for Sherman Theatre, where I developed and directed many plays. From there I went on to work as Associate Director at Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru and The Other Room. But after these few years, and a couple of babies, it was time to go freelance!

Since then I have been juggling parenting, directing, writing, producing and creating theatre, film and television - and it really does feel as manic as it sounds, but it definitely it keeps things interesting!

In 2015 Alun Saunders and I founded Neontopia Theatre Company, with a passion to develop and explore work bi-lingually, following the success of our production of A Good Clean Heart at The Other room. I was shortlisted as Best Director at the Wales Theatre Awards for the original production of A Good Clean Heart at The Other Room in 2015. I also won the Olwen Wyman Award for my dramaturgical work on this production. Neontopia’s last production was Tuck a new play by Alun Saunders, at the Wales Millennium Centre.

In 2018 was selected as one of 4 Directors on the Labordy Scheme, run by Ffilm Cymru Wales, BFI, S4C and Arts Council of Wales. It has provided me with opportunities to develop my skillset for Film and Television, by working with mentor Josie Rourke, Rachel Tunnard, and attending workshops with leading practitioners in UK Film, TV and Theatre industries.

My work directing and developing plays with writers, lead me to working as a Story Producer for Fiction Factory, on long running drama series Gwaith Cartref, for S4C. Joining the team on series 7, I worked on three series of the programme, which aired on S4C. Story lining, developing scripts, through to shooting scripts, and Assistant Producing Series 9.

Having collaborated creatively on Gwaith Cartref myself and Ffion Williams ( Producer) developed and co- created our own 6 part drama series for S4C called Bregus, which was aired in 2021. I co-wrote two episodes and Directed Episode 4.

I then went on to direct Jam a short form LGBTQ+ Comedy/Drama series for S4C written by Alun Saunders.

As a writer, I completed a NFTS Screenwriting course and have written 3 short films which have been produced. The latest - BAICH/BURDEN - was my first as Writer/Director and was selected for the Beacons scheme, funded by BFI, Ffilm Cymru Wales and S4C and was produced by SEVERN SCREEN.

This led to my first feature film being supported for development by Ffilm Cymru Wales.

In 2022 I was selected as one of 15 promising film makers for the BFI NETWORK @ LFF. Most recently I have been developing my first feature screenplay with The Writers Lab New York  through their UK & European Lab, where I was mentored by Nicola Kropp, and supported creatively by Julia Berg, Nitza Wilon Elizabeth Kaiden.

Whilst developing my own writing projects, I have also been working as a Producer on a new bi-lingual 6 Part television crime drama series The One That Got Away/Cleddau Produced by Blacklight TV for Banijay and S4C.

I appreciate the different hats I wear as Writer-Director-Producer and I love how each project allows me to put the years of experience I have in the industry to good use in different ways across Film, Television and Theatre. Who knows, I may even find some new hats to try soon!
